was born in san francisco in 1922. he received his undergraduate degree from uc berkeley and his law degree from yale. in the early 1950's, he worked as an attorney general -- he worked for an attorney general. in the late 1960's, he was one of the men who got together with my grandfather and convinced him to run for mayor back in 1968. he was also one of dianne feinstein's advisers, and he served for 16 years. the boarding area at the terminal is slated to be renamed in his honor. he is survived by his wife, a sister, his daughter, his son, and four grandchildren. a memorial service will be held on october 18 in san francisco, and i would like to extend i think it would be nice if we could send it from the entire building. clerk calvillo: thank you supervisor alioto-pier. supervisor? supervisor: there were a lot of rock bands, and that was very interesting. he talked about his early career, having rock bands coming to see him and how much fun and enjoyment he had. also, in particular his work as a region. also, i would like to have this closed in honor of one sergeant, the nephew of

was born and raised there. spent the majority of my time actually in that area as an undergraduate and ten i went to iowa state university where i m majored in english. did my undergraduate there and decided i wanted to teach. i took a position, my english faculty position, and enjoyed that tremendously. i got to work with students from the developmental reading and writing, all the way to those who had a very clear interest in major i majoring in english. so then i moved into the administration at that point and really took, i think, just a wonderful opportunity to learn about how a college works, to underand it from where students come in, how we assess our programs and then moving forward from th point. after i'd been there 12 ars i then moved to college in livermore, california, while there i was campus president and loved that experience as well. i've been very blessed to work at organizations and with faculty and aff and students who have a clear passion about what we do, recognize the value of the community college and then position me at montgomery college. >> value, what more

undergraduate have a double major, so you can major in journalism, but you have to major in something else, which i thought was a good idea and i helped push it through. today, i think the reason to go to journalism school would be that in order to practice as a jourlistn the future, you're gonna have to understand this huge puzzle that we're all grappling with and this series is grappling with, which involves technology, business, politics, democracy, journalism, news, video, audio. it's a huge puzzle, and what journalism schools ought to be able to do is really equip people to grapple with the entire puzzle. here's what i really want to tell you. if we were able to still have the gates around the media system that we once had, it would be easyo say everyone should follow the rules. what we're trying to do is operate in a world where there are no gates, where anyone is allowed to have a blog, and under those conditions, which it's gonna be very hard to undo, we have to figure out how to make for a more trustable and reliable news system. >> so past is prologue. let's turn you now to the n

bioterrorism fears are overinflated and lionel stevens took exception. if an undergraduate student would to find a weakness and exploit a weakness to a common insect he could create a crop failure in both corn and soybeans, on the surface i will grant your theory sounds possible but let's break it down. you need a pretty savvy graduate student with a power terrorist tendency, that's my first o most terrorists are poorly educated and anti scientific fundamentalists and next the soybean terrorist would have to find a weakness in the genetics and a current expression for some kind of insect advantage, the possibility of either is minute and the possible of bothing both is infinitesimal and this variety would have to go undetected during years of field trials, if you want to get the things mantid million of acres it can't be done in a backyard lab and sold by mail. finally you have to get that particular variety sold to a brunch of farmers good luck with that one. at most only one variety from one company would be affected the threat you described may be possible but i rank it with the
